How can I remove Vista AntiVirus 2011 malware?

I got this virus yesterday and it's incredibly obnoxious. It isn't as bad now as it was at first, I am able to get my computer up and on and use the internet. However, all of my files (pictures, docs, everything) are gone, hidden. I would really like to get rid of this virus without having to wipe my entire computer and return it to factory settings, but I am not having much luck being able to open anti virus programs. Is there any way to clear my computer of this manually? I've tried restarting in safe mode, but I still get the incessant popups. Any help is much appreciated!
