The drains in my back garden are blocked and the sewage is pumping out! ( Im from the UK )?

Is the sewage deadly , contagous or anything else cause I on accident stood in a small part of it and my feet are hurting!! Ive been away for a week on a cruise and have just got back!! I don't understand how its happened!!
